The Center for Responsible and Inclusive Technology is within the College of Engineering and Information Technology at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. The Center was established in 2022 through a College initiative to build up capacity for interdisciplinary collaborations throughout the College. After years of individual efforts across the College in raising the prominence of responsible and ethical research and education, the Center’s goal was to coalesce those efforts and move forward in a strategic manner. To that end, the following mission was developed.

With a recognition that all built systems use and design are embedded in social, political, and affective systems, the mission of CRIT is to increase the spotlight on Responsible Technology scholarship (research, teaching, and community engagement) at UMBC; to find, create, and promote excellence in Responsible Technology scholarship; to support, strengthen, focus, and grow Responsible Technology scholarship at UMBC; to enhance the future of innovative, collaborative, cross-and inter-disciplinary, and cutting edge Responsible Technology at UMBC.
